A command of about 35 men has been sent to the California House and another 14 men in another direction after this Confederate command. A Citizen, Mr McCain, brought in the wounded and killed. Also today Lieutenant J.G. Lindsay had a fight near Independence at sunrise." Note: Apparently, Edward J. Wurtz implies that there is a connection to Alexander Empfield with the above notation. A finding on April 22, 2007, does not show Alexander as one of Peter's and Mary's children. There is also a gap in the birth years between 1812 and 1826 when Alexander was born. Either Peter remarried or Alexander belongs to another family or was being cared for by a family member. Parents: Peter EMPFIELD and Mary HART. The article mentions that a John EMPFIELD and his sons David and Emanuel were the first on the scene as the result of the driver's plea for help. It is not known as of December 20, 1998, by this compiler if this is the same John Empfield as this John. However, in 1874, this John Empfield would have been about 26 years old, old enough to be married and have two sons. Further research is needed to confirm this link.
