bulletPaul E, (?) LAUVER was born abt 1904 to 1905 in Bellwood, Blair Co., Pa.. (6556) This find is a surprise in the Blair County birth records. Whether he survived to adulthood or was even a member of this family still must be confirmed. He may have died very young.

Parents: Ammon G. LAUVER and Mary A. BENNER.

First St. - Bellwood until 24 July 1959 in Bellwood, Blair Co., Pa..(6569) (6570) In some records the middle initial is listed as C. However, B. is correct and is found on his headstone. This initial possibly stands for Benner, the family name of his mother.

According to an e-mail from David Lauver, son of Chester (nephew of the other brothers), "Each of these brothers had their own trade, and together they could complete a house."

The middle name was confirmed on 12 June 2002 by Judy Lauver Lightner, niece of Perry and holder of extensive family documents. Parents: Ammon G. LAUVER and Mary A. BENNER.

He was married to Mary Harriet GENSAMER in 1921. (6571) Perry Lauver and Mary Gensamer were witnesses to the wedding of Mary's twin sister Pearl on 9 March 1921. Since Mary used her maiden name to witness the wedding it is likely they were not yet married, so it is possible to assume that the Lauver wedding took place not too long after the above date. Also, check possibility that this was a double ring ceremony.

Blair Co. marriage index shows 1921. Copy of original application pending. He was divorced from Mary Harriet GENSAMER unknown. The Census of 1930 shows a Mary Lauver, age 27, residing as one of four lodgers at 2504 Fourth Ave., Altoona (6th Ward), Blair Co., Pa. Since Mary (grandmother of the compiler of this database) was born in 1903, the age makes this a possible match. It is common family knowledge that Mary and Perry Lauver were divorced, but the record of divorce is not yet filed in this database (as of October 2002).

The census also shows an occupation of "Scheride Maker" (?).

Children were: Clifford Perry LAUVER, Sylvia Agnes LAUVER, Vernelda LAUVER, Edward Benner LAUVER.

He was married to Ada Mae ---- .(6572)

bullet Peter LAUVER was born on 19 Jul 1826 in McAlisterville, Juniata Co., Pa.. (6573)(6574) (6575) (6576) He owned 176-acre farm inherited from his father Henry K. Lauver in 1879 in Millerstown, Perry Co., Pa..(6577) He was a Farmer, Millerstown, Perry Co. in 1897 in Millerstown, Perry Co., Pa..(6578) Introduced to farming as a young boy on his father's farm. From Biographical Encyclopedia of the Juniata Valley:

"Peter Lauver was give years of age when his parents removed to the farm he now occupies in Greenwood township, Perry county, Pa. For three months of each year, public schools were maintained in this township, and in these schools he received his first instruction in books. But as there were many busy weeks even during the winter months when farm jobs demanded all the force the family could muster, he was sometimes kept from attendance upon the brieff annual sesson. The most important of these winter jobs was the threshing of the grain, which before the introduction of machinery, when it was all done by the trampling of horses or the stroke of flails on the barn floor, was a protracted process; in certain parts of the work it gave employment to even the youngest boy on the farm. At the age of nineteen years all Peter Lauver's schooling was over, and he was regularly employed on the farm. He died on 26 May 1903. (6579) He was educated public school, Greenwood Twp., Perry Co. school age in Greenwood Twp., Juniata Co., Pa..(6580) School was conducted three months of each year. Winter responsbilities with the family farm sometimes kept him from attending the brief annual session. He was a Republican in Pennsylvania.(6581) He was German Brethren in Lost Creek, Juniata Co., Pa.. (6582) Parents: Henry K. LAUVER and Nancy "Anna" ACKER.

He was married to Susanna or Susan Annie KEAGLE on 31 May 1849 in Liverpool Twp., Perry Co., Pa..(6583) (6584)(6585) Children were: Louisa LAUVER, Margaret (Maggie) LAUVER, Milton LAUVER, Maurice E. Parents: Ralph Lemoyne LAUVER II and Sarah DAVIS.

bullet Ralph Lemoyne LAUVER was born on 15 Jun 1935 in Bellwood, Blair Co., Pa.. (6591)(6592) His Virginia newspaper obituary states that he was born in Altoona. While either of the neighboring communities of Bellwood or Altoona are possible, the present files do not contain compelling evidence to confirm one or the other.

Death certificate states that he was born in 1935. The informant was his brother Glen. His brother David reports in an e-mail that he was born in 1936. A birth certificate would clarify the actual date. The official document is, for now, being considered the more primary source, but since another brother was the source, a second primary document is needed to confirm the year of birth.

He resided 719 5th Ave. - Altoona on 29 Sep 1967 in Altoona, Blair Co., Pa.. (6593) He died on 13 Mar 1975 in Medical Center General Hospital, Norfolk, Va..(6594) (6595) (6596) Death was accidental. The death certificate does not provide any detail as to the circumstances. He resided 2825 Shady Lane - Portsmouth, Va. on 13 Mar 1975 in Portsmouth, Va..(6597) He was buried between 15 Mar 1975 and 20 Mar 1975 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Portsmouth, Va..(6598) The death certificate states that Greenlawn is located in Chesapeake, Va.

bullet Reuben LAUVER was born on 14 Mar 1831 in Juniata Co., Pa.. (6611)(6612) (6613) John Slabaugh and the tombstone of Reuben A. Lauver show a birth date of 14 Mar 1831. Melvin Lauver has a birth date of 14 Nov 1831. The month of March is more likely to be correct.

J. Richard Lauver has November 14 in his pedigree chart, but he may have copied this from the same source. I still think March is the correct birth month. He was buried in Mar 1903 in Lauver Mennonite Cemetery, Evendale, Juniata Co., Pa.. Gravesite seen by the compiler. He died on 10 Mar 1903 in Juniata Co., Pa.. (6614)(6615) (6616) John Slabaugh has a date of death as 15 Mar 1910. Melvin Lauver had a date of death as 10 Mar 1913. The tombstone of Reuben Lauver shows a date of death of 10 Mar 1903 along with an age in years, months and days which calculates correctly when considering the dates of birth and death. The tombstone is most likely to be correct. The reason for the discrepancies in the dates is unknown.

One other small piece of evidence that supports the 1903 date of death is that the compiler applied for a copy of a death certificate based on the 1913 date from the PA Bureau of Vital Statistics. The state began keeping vital records in 1906 and reported that no certificate of death exists for Reuben Lauver. It is likely that a death certificate will be found at the county court house of Juniata Co. He was a Blacksmith in Monroe Twp., Juniata Co., Pa.. Headstone also indicates "Infant Daughter." Parents: Norris Quinton LAUVER and Elizabeth G. GARLAND .

Since Solomon is direct paternal ancestor, it is more likely to be correct. It is possible Slabaugh's day of death of Jan. 31 could be the date of burial. Changing to 29 Jan on 4 March 2006.
