Westmoreland County

Westmoreland County was created on February 26, 1773, from part of Bedford County. It was named for a county in England. The original county seat of Hannastown was burned by the British and Indians on July 13, 1782. Greensburg became the new county seat after 1785. The borough was incorporated on February 9, 1799, and became a city in 1928.
