Sullivan CountySullivan County was created on March 15, 1847, from part of Lycoming County. It was named for state senator Charles C. Sullivan (Butler District), who was a key person in the passage of the bill creating the county. The county seat is Laporte, which was laid out in 1850 and incorporated in 1853. It was named for John La Porte, surveyor general of Pennsylvania from 1845 to 1851. |
