Potter CountyPotter County was named after General James Potter and created on March 26, 1804, from part of Lycoming County. Potter County was still attached to Lycoming County until 1814 when its citizens elected commissioners jointly with McKean County. Geographically separated from McKean County in 1824, Potter County was not fully detached judicially from McKean County and fully organized until 1835. The county seat is Coudersport, named for Jean Samuel Couderc, an Amsterdam banker. The borough was incorporated on February 7, 1848. |
