Perry CountyPerry County was named in honor of Admiral Oliver Hazard Perry, noted by Pennsylvanians for his victory in the battle of Lake Erie. It was created on March 22, 1820, from part of Cumberland County. Bloomfield became the county seat after 1827. Historians believe that Bloomfield was laid out in June 1822 when clover was in bloom, thus, the name given to the tract of land in the original patent. Named New Bloomfield by the Postal Service, the borough was incorporated on March 14, 1831. |
