Forest CountyForest County was created on April 11, 1848, from part of Jefferson County. On October 31, 1866, additional area was added to the county from Venango County. Obviously named for extensive forests, the county was attached to Jefferson County until 1857, during which time Marienville was the county seat. After 1866, the borough of Tionesta, named after the Tionesta Creek, became the county seat. It was incorporated on February 28, 1856. |
