Clearfield CountyClearfield County was formed from parts of Huntingdon County and Lycoming County. Although it was created on March 26, 1804, Clearfield County operated as part of Huntingdon County and had no elected commissioners until 1812, with judicial organization taking place in 1822. The name comes from Clearfield Creek which alluded to "clear" fields and openings to the creeks. The borough of Clearfield is the county seat and was incorporated on April 21, 1840. |
